Enroll Now for Health Insurance
Friday, December 15 through Friday, December 15
Enroll Now for Health Insurance  (Local)
Open Enrollment for Obamacare runs from Nov 1 to Dec 15, 2017. Funding for advertisement and printing has been cut by 90% and the open enrollment period has been cut by 6 weeks. Further restrictions have also been imposed, such as shutting down the website for 12 hours every Sunday for maintenance.

LWVCC member Teresa Jenkins has been working with the licensed health care navigator for Charlotte County, Marilyn Gregory, to help get the word out about open enrollment.

The flyer may be confusing as it notes that Marilyn will have an enrollment event November 15, but this is simply one way to bring awareness to the community. Marilyn will be available Tuesdays and Thursdays from Nov 1 to Dec 15 and all other days by appointment to sign people up, change current coverage and answer questions. Her location is the Charlotte County Health Department, 1100 Loveland Blvd, Punta Gorda - her direct line for assistance and to make an appointment is 941-637-4983.

Anyone seeking health care through the Marketplace can also call the Health Planning Council of SW Florida at 866-547-2793 to make an appointment-this number is good to make appointments anywhere in South West Florida including Charlotte County. (Or simply call Marilyn directly.)

People who qualify for financial assistance through the Marketplace will continue to have access to tax credits to lower premiums and cost sharing reductions, as required by Obamacare. Coverage will be effective January 2018.

December Speaker is Michael Hirsh  (Local)
3:00 pm to 5:00 pm
Florida Community Bank, 125 Nesbit Punta Gorda FL
Our speaker on Tuesday, December 19 is Michael Hirsh, who is proud to be the oldest news intern at public radio in the country.  He is presently doing special projects and reporting for WBCU 90.1FM.  But he has also written 8 books, including None Braver about being embedded with the US Air Force in Afghanistan.  The winner of the Peabody Award, eight Emmys, and a Writers Guild of America Award, Michael will help us understand how today's social and other media have changed things.  Look forward to a lively discussion.  We will meet at 3 pm at Florida Community Bank in Punta Gorda.  Remember to leave some parking spots for bank patrons.  There should be parking in the Justice Center lot for some of us.

Come hear our guest, and some of the plans for a bigger and better League for 2018.  Boy, has Julie McGillivray been working to build our chapter.
